Image of Sound

An exploration of the medium of the digital photograph, this project uses the digital data used to save .jpg photographs as source material that is manipulated using audio-editing software, and then rendered again into a photographic image. The result of this process is sometimes chaotic, but often beautiful. The unlikely editing process yields visual effects that are representative of the structure of audio wave files or visually represent the method audio editing filters effect the underlying data. Colors suddenly become the rhythms we hear in music, repetition of an image is an echo, and the viewer is allowed to see a visual representation of the way computers interact with the data of the source file.
